BBM 7 - Features & bug fixes


So you've heard of the all new BBM 7 and you want to know its features before you upgrade.

This only works on devices running OS 6 and above. So in case you have something like a Cruve 8520, Im sorry, it wont upgrade to BBM7 yet.

TAKE A FULL BACKUP IN YOUR COMPUTER INSTALLING!

OTA method (Direct download)

  1. Just go to http://www.blackberry.com/BBM from your phone's browser and follow the steps

OTA method (App World)

  1. Open Blackberry App World from your phone
  2. Go to My World
  3. Options -> Refresh List
Blackberry Messenger should appear in the 'Upgrades' category.

Desktop method (From your computer)

  1. Go to http://www.blackberry.com
  2. Click the BBM tab
  3. Hit Download BBM
  4. Towards your right under 'Item Information' it should show you version 7.0.0.126
  5. Click 'Download'
  6. Sign in to your Blackberry ID.
  7. Connect your Blackberry to your PC.
  8. Click Continue Browsing
Allow it to sync and progress bar to do its thing.

Wifi Fix (Thanks to Thanweer)


If you've got the error that says "Cannot establish connection" on your BBM 7 even though you're connected to wifi, can browse and the rest of the apps are working - here's what you need to do.

  • Go to your 'Set up Wifi' on your phone where you see a list of available networks.
  • Click 'Saved Wifi Networks'
  • Select the one you're currently connected to and hit Edit
  • Untick 'Automatically obtain IP address and DNS'
  • In your computer - Go to Start Menu, type cmd and hit Enter to run Command Prompt
  • Type ipconfig and hit Enter.
  • Under IPv4 you'll see your IP as something like 192.168.1.xxx or 192.168.2xx.x - Type that as it is onto your phone and only replace the digits after the last dot. For example 192.168.1.XXX or 192.168.123.X with any random number/s.

Apple users -

  • Apple Menu -> System Preferences
  • Click on 'Network' icon under Internet
  • From the 'Show' drop down menu select how you're connected to the internet
  • Your details will be below. 

BOTH WINDOWS/MAC - YOU'RE NOT DONE YET -

  • Put the Subnet Mask as it is on the computer into your phone
  • Put the primary DNS as 8.8.8.8
  • Put the Default Gateway as it is in Command Prompt
  • Hit Save & Connect

What basically happened was your region just changed from wherever you are.
The little red ! on your main BBM screen should now have disappeared.
Hit that green button on your friend's profile and enjoy BBM Voice!

      Hello , I downloaded the BBM 7.0 . It was installed perfectly with the above mentioned settings. I am able to receive calls, but can't hear anything niether the person who has called can hear..just complete silence. Can you help me out with this mudassir ? Thanks

      Even after it shows connected , there is no voice being transmitted at both the ends..and the the time keeps ticking after its connected

    i did that but the BlackBerry Messenger on the website says that it is not available for your country ... can you please share me the downloaded BBM7 file ... Please! :(

      I did that it installed perfectly . It said restart i Clicked "reboot" phone started but there was no bbm icon anywhere . Nothing anywhere ... Help pleasee!!!

    I live in UAE .. i cant download bbm 7 , i am getting this error , item is not available for download for your device.. :( ..

      just change the digits after the last dot as mentioned in the instructions. in your case, 2.

    In my BB app world it shows the BBM7 in the description, but as you said to refresh list, it doesnt show the 'upgrade' option after refreshing. I tried from OTA www.blackberry.com/BBM also but when i press download now, it says your BB doesnt meet the requirements. And i'm not downloading it from anywhere else because my friend lost his BBM icon & i don want that to happen. I have bold 4 9900, Please help me out !?

      Check ur OS in Options, Device, About Device Versions, 3rd line
      Download accordingly.

      Ask ur friend to do the same, his BBM is fine dont worry. Just disappeared because he used the wrong link

    hey, i went through the whole process, but when i want to save and connect, it tells me "Connection terminated".. and the bb logo doesn't show after the wifi logo at the top of the screen.

      Did you change the digits in the IP after the last dot? They cant be the same as any other device since every IP is unique. Just change different numbers till it connects.

    I downloaded and installed bbm 7 but the only problem i am facing is that "associating BBM with your blackberry ID" is not going sometimes it says that failed to associate

      Turn on 3G. Happens in 2 mins but just took one person 25 mins so im guessing its the same issue as urs.

    Mudassir can u help pls when im trying down bbm 7 from siteit say "sorry your device does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support blackberry messenger now i downloaded it from another site its installed but wifi is never working with it , i changed the setting as u told in this article but i dont knw what to enter in hidden numbers??? Which u didnt show :( someone gave me their i copied it it works sometimes , but most of time doesnt everyone is using bbm7 except me i have 9780

      You mean BBM7 ? Yes it does. 9780 runs OS6 so use the correct link from ur phone.

    Well when i open a chat page with any person its not coming green and already he is under a wifi coverage, also in the 1st page on the top right there is the red exclamation mark and already am having wifi connection when i click on the that i icon on the top a message appears ( your voice chat connection cannot be established) thank you :)

    Hi Mudassir, I downloaded the BBM7 OK but Im not able to see any contacts in green and I see a red exclamation signal on mine. I followed the wifi fix instructions many times but still it doesnt work. My is IP 192.168.1.65 and my phone showed 0.0.0.0 so wrote down the above with 66, 99, 88, etc., after the last dot instead of 65 and my phone doesnt connect to the wifi even after writing down 65. It only connects to wifi with the automatically obtain IP config. Please help...thanks

      it takes time, leave your phone on 3G and let it be. 5 mins or 5 hours it'll work eventually.

      Go to options, device, about device versions and check your OS (3rd line)

      And use the links accordingly

    I live in the Dubai, initially BBM Voice worked very well I am in ETISALAT SIM CARD HOLDER. However since a month my BBM Voice does not work. I tried the WIFI fix and degrading and upgrading the software is there any other way you can suggest?

    Hi. Good day! Thank you for this post.
    It seemed to have helped a lot of bb users however im still having a problem with my voice chat.

    Still having the same message: Your voice chat connection cannot be established.

    I followed all the steps that you listed and im pretty sure i had a bunch of numbers punched in for the IP address but its still not working.

    Mine was a recent upgrade because my bb is running on OS 5

    Any help will surely be appreciated. Thank you so much!

    Hi, I am trying to use BBM voice chat on 9900 and i also tried all the steps told by you but am not able to establish voice chat connection.

    I am using it on home Wifi connection in India.

    settings I tried

    192.168.1.X
    255.255.255.0
    8.8.8.8
    192.168.1.1

    tried changing the last digit in X & XX too

    still same error. Kindly guide,

    WiFI otherwise is working on the phone.
